There are endless different types of paper. That is why paper is divided into a number of different application categories:
- Graphic paper
- Artist paper
- Writing paper
- Packaging paper
- Other paper types
For Direct Mail, we use graphic papers, for example for printing letters and envelopes. Graphic papers are divided into coated and uncoated papers. Coated paper has a coating layer, giving it a smooth feel. This is also called Machine Coated (MC) paper. Uncoated paper has not undergone this treatment and therefore has a rougher feel. This is called Offset paper or Uncoated paper, and it is the same paper you use at home as writing paper or in the printer.
In addition, paper can be wood-containing or wood-free. Wood-free does not mean that there is no wood in it, but that it has been bleached in such a way that the paper does not discolour under the influence of sunlight. Paper can also be recycled, meaning it is made from waste paper.
